About Me

I've been writing and editing professionally for most of my life. Since earning an MFA in Writing from Vermont College of Fine Arts (VCFA), I've focused mostly on writing novels, essays and poetry. I've also written software instruction manuals, marketing and advertising copy, and public relations materials.

I love helping other writers with their work. I've taught college writing courses, fiction workshops in the community, and poetry in elementary and middle schools.

I'm originally from Colorado, now live in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in central Virginia, and travel to Chile—my husband's homeland—whenever I get the chance.

I play a round of Boggle with myself every night. I'm always very fair. Sometimes I issue a challenge: Is that really a word? Then I look it up. Most of the time, it is. The world of words is never boring, always amazing. Because words come from people. From history. From lives we'll never know and can hardly imagine. Words make us human, and help us to see the humanity in others. This world needs words. Lots of them, freely shared.
